Where is the medical library located at MIHS?

The library is located on the Lower Level of the Hospital’s Main building, directly down the corridor from the Cafeteria and Health Information Management.

Who can use the library?

The library is available to all MIHS employees.

What are the operating hours?

The library is staffed Monday-Friday, 8:00AM- 5:00PM. If you need assistance outside of regular business hours we are happy to arrange a time that works best with your schedule. The library is accessible 24 hours a day to clinical staff.

I am clinical staff. How do I get in after hours?

MIHS physicians, medical students, observers, pharmacists, and nurse managers may access the library 24 hours a day, 7 days a week via card swipe access with their hospital identification badge. Other clinical staff may call Security for access.

How can I access library resources offsite?

Many of the library’s online journals and databases are restricted to MIHS IP addresses. However, some resources such as STATRef!, MEDLINE, CINAHL, Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews, and PsycINFO are available remotely by user name and password. Please speak with the library staff to receive a user name and password.

How do I get a journal article or book that is not held at MIHS?

Books, journal articles, or audiovisuals which are not held in the MIHS collection can be requested from other libraries or sources. Interlibrary loan generally takes four business days but varies depending on the availability of the title locally. Please speak with library staff if your request is urgent.

How long do books circulate?

Most books circulate for two weeks, with one renewal.

Can I eat and drink in the library?May I make photocopies? What is the cost?

Yes. Please be respectful of the library and clean-up after yourself.

 

Yes. Use of the photocopy machine is for library materials only. There is no charge.

Can I bring my cellular phone and pager into the library?

Yes. Please note: pagers do not receive a signal in the rear of the library. We recommend you place pagers on the book return cart near the door.

Can the library staff help me with literature searches?

The professional library staff provides assistance in using the library's print and electronic resources, and guidance in selecting appropriate databases and providing advice on search methods, as well as offering group or one-on-one training sessions.
